I recently found two bottles of the Maybelline Better Skin foundation at one of my local Walmarts and surprisingly it was in my shade, so of course it jumped into my cart. I had heard nothing about this foundation, so I did a little research. This foundation originally hit shelves in the UK and Australia about a year or so ago from what I can tell. And it is coming to the US Summer 2015. Here is what the Maybelline UK website has to say about it: “Dull, blotchy, uneven skin? Visibly improves your skin every minute you’re in it. Our first hydrating foundation with Actyl C and SPF 20. Flawless all-day coverage. The formula helps skin look more radiant, fresher and even, with all-day wear. Our foundation improves the look of your skin every time you wear it. Skin looks better today, tomorrow and beyond. Better Skin reduces the appearance of dull, blotchy and uneven skin, leaving you with flawless, hydrated, even and glowing skin. It evens out discoloration and brightens dull areas, providing a healthy looking glow from day to night. The formula is suitable for sensitive skin, contains no perfume, and is non-comedogenic. It is tested under dermatological control.” While it is here in the US, the Maybelline US website isn’t showing this foundation or its concealer yet. This foundation also has a matching concealer like I just mentioned, but it doesn’t have a matching powder. Let’s talk about the foundation first and then we will move to the concealer.

The packaging is wonderful. It is a square glass bottle with a plastic pump. This is the first Maybelline that I have seen with a pump and that is what really drew me in. I really hoped that I would like it so that I could use the pump on the Fit Me Matte & Poreless foundation too.
The consistency is a medium mousse-like texture with a perfume-y scent. I pump 1-2 pumps onto the back of my hand and then go in with my brush or sponge. It provides a medium coverage that is buildable. However, I would only recommend building it up in the places that you absolutely need it because it did start to get cakey when I tried to apply a second coat all over. Also, it does settle into fine lines but using a pore filling primer solves this issue.
The color range contains 8 colors that lean neutral-yellow. I am in the lightest shade, 10 Porcelain. At first, I was very afraid that this foundation wasn’t going to match me, because it’s more yellow. This foundation didn’t oxidize on me at all…Hallelujah! I was so pleasantly surprised that this shade ended up matching me really nicely.
Here are pictures from day 1: For this first day of wear, I used the Real Techniques Buffing Brush to apply it. I didn’t use a pore filling primer of any sort. I just used my green primer to cover any redness. I built it up to two coats. It definitely got a little cakey and it settled into fine lines. I set it with a powder, but I didn’t use a setting spray. I wore this foundation for about 9.5 hours. When it came time to take it off, I did look very greasy. It had broken up on my nose and chin. However, it hadn’t really faded. I still had coverage on my cheeks and forehead. If I had wanted to get more coverage out of it for the evening, I would have had to go in with more powder just to build up the coverage more and to soak up the excess oil.
Day 2: sponge, lightly powdered and nyx matte setting spray. 9.5-10 hours. At the end of the night, I was needing to blot and repowder on my forehead. good coverage on the cheeks. need to build up the coverage in my t-zone if I was wanting to get a few more hours of wear out of it. applies much better with sponge, didn’t look as cakey. this foundation is definitely better suited for a sponge and not a brush. was more careful not to use too much, didn’t try to build it this time. start out with less than you think that you need and you can always add a bit more in the areas that you need. didn’t settle into fine lines as much today.

So there are four shades of the Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin concealer at my local Walmart. The lightest was Light/Medium and I didn’t pick it up just because it looked way to dark to use under my eyes. I might could’ve gotten away with using it on blemishes, but I would’ve had to use something else under my eyes. Here is what Maybelline AU is saying about it: “Our 1st vitamin enriched longwear concealer with Actyl-C for flawless coverage now, smoother, more even skin in 3 weeks. ACTYL-C FORMULA – improves skin’s appearance after 3 weeks leaving it feel energised and looking healthier. ALL-DAY WEAR – Longwear formula ensures your foundation lasts all day. Flawless coverage, covers imperfections, reduces dark circles, evens skin tone, reduces redness.” It may be a really great concealer, but I don’t know since they didn’t really have a shade for me.
It has been about two weeks since I bought that first bottle and the full line has since shown up at one of my local Walmarts, but not at CVS and Walgreens yet. However, it is on the Walmart and Ulta websites. The foundation isn’t anything life changing. It is a foundation that I will use if I know that I am going to be wearing makeup for 6-8 hours. Once you hit 8 hours, you really need to go in with a powder and blotting papers to really build up the coverage again. However, this foundation is formulated for normal to dry skin and I have normal to oily. If you have normal to dry skin, you would love this foundation. You would also probably be able to wear it for longer as well. But if you have super oily skin, this foundation isn’t for you. I give this foundation 4 out of 5 hearts, just because it can get cakey if you aren’t careful, as well as the selection isn’t huge and it does lean more yellow.
