2017: A Year of Consistency

While my last post was a post of reflection, this is a post of looking forward. There is a brand new year stretched before me, so I have been thinking about how I want this year to look. I am a planner. I like to have a plan for everything I do, so it’s a no-brainer that I am already planning out these next 365 days. In the year 2017, Mr. Man will graduate from college and begin his first big boy job. He will hopefully move into the house that will also become our home in 2018. This year, we will plan our wedding. We are so excited to start this new adventure together. After almost 6 years, it has been a long time coming and in this new year, we will get to finally plan our dream wedding. While we are planning our own wedding, we will also be attending the weddings of 3 of our best friends this year – one in January, June and October. But enough about Mr. Man and weddings, there are many huge things happening for me this year too. In March, I enter a new decade of my life as I celebrate my 20th birthday. In December, I also will graduate from college and hopefully begin a big-girl job of my own. With so many things to look forward to, I can’t wait for 2017 to truly get started!

Word of the Year

On Instagram, several of the bloggers I follow have been picking out their word of the year. I decided that I wanted to choose a word that would embody the things that I want to accomplish both personally and here on The Calico Cat. So, I have chosen the word, consistency. In 2017, I want to be more consistent in my posts here on the blog, but I also want to be consistent in engaging with you all across my other social accounts as well. On the flipside of that, I want to consistently unplug from said social media and spend time with my family and Mr. Man over this next year. Consistency is key! And consistency is something that I think is very prevalent in my list of goals and resolutions for this upcoming year.

2017 Resolutions and Goals

  • Personal
    1. Workout consistently 2-3 times per week and get toned for the wedding.
    2. Drink more water and eat less junk!
    3. Go on a date, or spend time just the two of us, at least once a week.
    4. Strive to make the President’s list (maintain a 4.0 GPA) at least once over the next two semesters.
    5. Be consistent in spending time with our families. Be present during that time and away from my phone/computer.
    6. Read 10 different books.
    7. Spend less time stressing about the small things.
    8. Don’t live life in fear. Do the things that terrify me!
    9. Enjoy the ride as Mr. Man and I plan our wedding.
  • The Calico Cat
    1. Post at least once per week, but shoot to post twice per week.
    2. Engage on Instagram more by following new accounts and leaving comments.
    3. Try to post something new to Instagram every day, at least every other day.
    4. Get 300 blog subscribers by the end of the year.
    5. Hit 2,000 Instagram followers by the end of the year.
    6. Host more giveaways, maybe one every season!

I hope you tag along to see what adventures await me in this new year! I can’t wait to share it all with you!

What I Got for Christmas Haul {GIVEAWAY!}

American Girl “Girl of the Year” Doll – Lea

As a child, I fell in love with the American Girl dolls. Each year at Christmas, I either asked for a new doll or for my doll’s accessories. My sister and I built up quite a collection of these dolls. Over the years, I collected Felicity, Nellie and Kirsten. Earlier this year, I saw the debut of the Girl of the Year on the Today show, I believe. Her name was Lea, pronounced like my name and just spelled without the H. I jokingly told my parents that I would love to have that doll to complete my American Girl collection since she shared my name. However, I had no intentions of receiving it. To my surprise, I woke up Christmas morning to find my own Lea doll laying under our Christmas tree. While I loved all of my gifts, this one is probably one of my favorites.

Gifts that Keep on Giving: A Fair Trade Gift Guide, featuring Macy’s Heart of Haiti

The Christmas season is the time of year, when we gather together with our family and friends to celebrate a year of health, to reconnect and show our love by giving gifts. Most importantly, it is the time of year where we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. He bestowed love and kindness upon everyone who knew him and by his death on the cross, his kindness has saved all of us from a death of sin. As Christians, we should show this same compassion to those around us.

While reflecting on ways that I could do this, the opportunity arose for me to work with Macy’s and their Heart of Haiti line. This line is not a charity. Macy’s has created a fair trade partnership between US designers and third-world artisans, like those living in Haiti. This trade not aid program provides the buyer with beautiful, handmade home decor, while the artisan receives 22% of the sales from these products. This gives them the opportunity to use their trade to gain a sustainable income, so that they can provide for their families. It truly is a wonderful cause that I am so thankful to be able to support this year! In case you also want to purchase a gift that keeps on giving, I have linked some of my other favorites from the line below!  🙂

Christmas is a time for giving, but also a great time to give back to great causes around the world. The Macy’s Heart of Haiti line is a great way to do that. Other fair trade product lines include NOVICA (4% cash back on Ebates), Connected Artisans and Ten Thousand Villages.

Thank you for reading. I hope you all have a merry Christmas!
